With the growing season in full swing, there are a few things that dog owners need to watch out for; Below are two common plants to avoid! Speargrass, or Grass Awns can weave into your dog’s coat or even stick directly into their skin, eyes, or ears. The simplest way to avoid Speargrass is to stay away from it, and be sure to brush or check your dog’s fur or coat after outdoor adventures.
Poison Hemlock is toxic for people and dogs to ingest, and can cause severe skin irritation (blisters, rash, etc) if handled or touched, even after the plant has died! This plant can be distinguished from others by the purple markings on it’s stems. If you suspect your dog has ingested Poison Hemlock, call your Veterinarian immediately!
