5 Tips for Nicer Nail Clipping
Reward – use something your dog thinks is amazing and try to reward lots and generously
Helper – helpers are great however if safe to do so and possible try to avoid having someone hold your dog down. Heavy restraint can add to your dog’s worries
Shorter sessions – try for just one nail or one foot per session
Tools – Scissor style nail clippers are less likely to squish the nail and are more accurate, make sure they’re sharp so they create minimal sensation
Choice – if your dog panics or otherwise refuses to allow you to clip his nails, stop and do not force him or try to wrestle him into complying. Forcing your dog to cooperate with a nail trim can degrade their relationship with you and increase their anxiety surrounding having their nails trimmed or having their feet handled.
